Default Radio Lights On/Off

This is a great, informative forum, andthank you for sharing your insights.

My first post(following asearch, but if not thorough, please direct me).

2006 LT, 3.9L: My MC's radio lights go off/dim at times of or whenever in a locale w/lessened lighting (e.g., dawn/twilight before sunrise/set,covered parking lot w/ open sides, under a large tree/in shade) and interestingly, as well as when the rising/setting sun is shining brightstraight-on.

What is/could be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to MCF ROB!!! Great job posting your car info there as it really helps my answer. I would beleive that your lights are coming on and therefore a signal is sent to turn down all interior lighting as the car thinks it is nighttime.

There may be a way to turn that off but I'm not sure. Check your owners manual under radioor reseting the oil life meter. There you will find instructions on how to enter the programming functions for the radio and there maybe an option to keep the lights at normal lighting.

Personally I like this as I know my headlights are on then.

10-4 there dan d00d. thats exactly what it is, the sensor on the dashboard is seeing it as dark outside therefore turning on the headlights causing everything that dims when the headlights turn on to do their thing

good catch and call bro

Yeah it looks like a black marble sunk into your dash board. Keep it clean with a dry cloth only and clean the glass around it at all time.

Enjoy your 06 awesome Monte.

thats kewl gpd, on my car there is a hole drilled in the plastic piece that directs air flow across the windsheld and about 1/4" down from that hole is mine and it looks like a solar panel. so even in noon if a cloud hits just right with that sensor being below level it turns my lights on LOL

and yeah bro u got a real sweet car to enjoy her

That's what that darn thing is! I've been curious about it but always forget to look it up.

Ahh!!! I got screwed up in the html on that quote.

I typed this line it: That's what that darn thing is! I've been curious about it but always forget to look it up.

I must have done it inside of Dave's comments. What a Homer on my part.
