Exclamation PCM question!

Must the PCM be covered by the plastic air box or can it be ziptied to the frame exposed to moisture and heat? I'm making a fender well intake and not sure what to do with it, any help would be great!

I bought a tray from a blazer and use that. It's exposed, no big deal.

Jason (The_Maniac) clear coated the PCM for me though. (in the photos, I am not running the clear-coated PCM)

Must a clear coat be professionally? Or can you do it yourself?

You can D-I-Y. He was just picking me up a spare PCM because I'm tuning and it's nice to have a spare

I didn't ask him to do it, he did it anyway because he's an awesome friend

I would get something better then zip ties to hold the PCM. Mike's tray from a Blazer is a nice way to do it.

I clear coated my PCM and Chibi's because ours are sitting exposed for anyone to see. And the aluminum casting of it can be a pain to clean. Once you clear coat it, it's done and now EASY to clean.

I'm a fan of a brushed metal look. I used a couple Dremel accessories to clean, smooth out the rough castings and texture it. Green Scotchbright is good for some areas the Dremel won't reach. Best part is, because of where it sits and how the clear coat applies, you don't have to be crazy with all the nooks and crannies. And you only need to clear one side (make sure to cover the connectors). I like a gloss clear, multiple coats until the "look and feel" is right.

Where can I pick up some clear coat? Does it just come in a can? Yeah the zip ties do look pretty ghetto

Any autoparts store (even walmart) will have clear coat in a can. It's usually sold next to the paint (since they go together)
