Pace Car down!!!
Well they're trying to total it. Saying my car is somehow only worth $2492. Saying it isn't a Pace Car somehow because their VIN machine doesn't say it is. Find it very hard to believe that my vin decoding comes up as 1 of 2222 and there were exactly that many made in 2000. I'm ultimately sad. Anyone familiar with the totalling process? I don't want to let it go and am pretty sure it's not worth a measly $2400. Can I fight it? How can I keep it?
Call GM, give them your vin# see if they can authenticate the pace car edition and provide that info to your insurance co. , otherwise I think you would have to pay the ins. co. the $2400 they are saying its worth to keep it.
If it's totalled, you can "buy it back". Basically, they'd give you $2400, and if you wanted the car, they'd give you something like $1700. When some jackass rear ended my wife's '98 Cavalier, they said the car was worth $2200, we bought it back and got $1700 for it. Then sold the car for parts after picking through what we wanted.
That's some bull**** though. I hope she got tickets, points on her license and a huge insurance increase.

OMG. So glad all were okay! I had the same thing happen to me. I was Sitting at a red light & I got hit by a super raised 4x4 Silversdo at 35 mph...She was arguing with boyfriend & didn't notice. All that hit me was her huge tire which then snapped her axle so at least she couldn't drive away from the scene. $6,500.00 later all is fixed, i look back at the picture of the damage and laugh (even though i lost out on entire show season) cause Her tire left a mark on the bumper which looked like a tramp stamp. I would post the pic but I have to do that from my laptop. Good luck with the Insurance Co & liability also don't let anyone talk you out of the pain in your neck. I work in claims so I know not to let anyone ignore that
glad you and the passenger are ok.
You didn't really say what all was damaged?
From the pics it looks like the rear bumper and possibly the trunk lid, as it looks like the spacing is a tad farther than it should be. You can probably get that fixed yourself for less that $2400, but like I said I don't know what all damage there is under the back of the car. Seems like you could just not claim it through insurance and fix it yourself, possibly take the driver of the other car to small claims as mentioned by David earlier, plus there is always Judge Judy
(sorry the wife and I watch her show and love the way she tells people what everyone else wants to say) but seriously they pay you for going on the show which is basically the amount you get for whatever settlement she decides on, yes I know this may be far fetched but food for thought if nothing else
