Default My '01 needs a tranny...

Ok boys (and girls)... I bought a 2001 monte. I don't know (I think it is) an SS because it has a moonroof....but that could just be a bunch of hooey and the moonroof was an additional option.

I believe it has the 3400 engine. And I hear there are two tranny's that fit that year make and model but one will throw a check engine light and the other one is the right one.

HOW do I tell which one I need?!?!? Is it done by my VIN or what?? The car has YET to be delivered but I told the dude I WANT IT (I stole it for 1200 dollars, how GOOD can you get??) and he's delivering it... and giving me the VIN and all that crap.

So... help a sister out here, I have cash and willing to spend it, I don't want to buy a transmission that isn't going to fix my issue, who knows it could be the torque conv or a maf sensor or something else, but if i need a tranny I want to know which one to have on hand as a back up plan...

Ps she already has a name... CHERRY BOMB. my favorite john melloncamp song EVAH.

If it has the 3400 V6, then it is an LS, not an SS...the SS has the 3800....

I thought there was only one tranny offered in the 6th gen Monte's...the 4T65E. However, in 04-07's with the Supercharged V6, or V8, they have the 4T65E HD.

To be honest, I can't say im right 100%. Maybe the 3400 did have a different tranny, but I don't think so. I THINK all Monte's from 2000 and up have the 4T65E, just supercharged and V8's have the HD version.

Just looked at wikipedia, while not the greatest sorce, it confirmed what I already thought...ALL 2000 and up Monte Carlo's have the 4T65E transmission...and the cars with the L67 and LS4 engine (supercharged 3.8L, and 5.3L) use the 4T65E HD...

THANK YOU MICHAEL! that is a GREAT help!!!! NOW... If the car ISNT supercharged, I know which one to buy!! I'm HOPING I don't need the trans... these trans are HARD to find, and are expensive when you do. I found one STILL IN THE CRATE from GM direct, dude is GIVING it to me in exchange for my dad doing him a favor. I love favors...

Now... lets hope the model number is right and it matches my engine. Oh happy day if it does, I'll be rollin up and runnin wednesday!! I can't WAIT to sit behind her wheel... I hear her calling my name! I saw pictures of the car and fell in love. While it's not my carla, she's BETTER. Too bad my license plate is too f'ed up to reuse.... I think my new one will be STNG-H8R. LOL!!

It's not an SS

and those tranny's aren't too hard to come by. Check out moradpartscompany.com if you ever needed a part lol.

Easily get a tranny for $200-500 + shipping

chibi from what I hear, the tranny showed no signs of slippage. It will start, it just won't go into drive. It could be ANYTHING... and from what my mechanic says, to let him look at it it could be a simple ten minute fix, he said he doesn't want me to order a transmission especially if I don't need it.
