Needs Ideals. Tranny went out
Transmission went out yesterday in my 2003 Monte SS. Just got this car in December.Car has 139,xxx miles. Interior and exterior is in excellent shape.
Needs some ideals what should do for the right buck? Ill do the work myself.
Im thinking get a super changed 3800 with tranny out of wreaked car with low miles?, Or maybe do the v8 swap?

If I'm not mistaken, the main difference between a Superchargeds tranny and the NA tranny is the HD passenger axle. And then there are different gear ratios you need to be aware of. So perhaps the low mile HD tranny if you can find one for a decent price or our stock tranny and buy the HD axle for it. I have my stock tranny for sale, 65,000 miles on it $175 plus shipping. It's been sitting for about 5 years, don't know if the seals are bad or not by now. Maybe other members will chime in on that issue. But it was running perfectly when removed.

Ha so your just up in Boise eh? I'm in Salt Lake, might be cheaper to meet up and swap out a tranny for coin. What do you say?

Well good, unless you find a better deal lets do it when you have the time or your friend comes through town. I have had it in my garage on a pallet out of the weather so it's still in very good condition.

Difference between the standard trans and HD trans is gears and axle as Greg said. The whole differential is different that's why the axle is different. You can easily buy a HD upgrade and its very easy to install.

I have a question for you guys, say my trans goes out at some point, I have the 06 Monte SS which I believe has the HD trans. Is there a better trans I can get? It's something I have thought about maybe even just changing it out since I plan on maybe bumping up my HP a fair bit. Is there like a super HD trans? haha
