So update on the build...

she runs.
got the zzp pcm earlier this week.
idle problem went away.
now has misfire from 3000rpm up and will start backfiring at 4500-5500rpm.
attempted a CASE re-learn and it will not hit idle cut off at 4000 like it’s supposed to (probably cuz of the misfires).
scan data looks good, STFT is switching from +8.7 to -10. LTFT is showing -12. LTFT is probably off again from misfires.
fuel pressure is 64psi at idle, 55-59 at higher rpms.
100% no vac leaks.
no CEL.
temp goes to around 170* and that’s it.

my thoughts are not enough tune for the mods or maybe I need bigger injectors. Either way ZZP is getting a call Monday. Can’t say I was overly impressed with how the tuned pcm purchase went as I did give a very detailed mod list and it seems all of it was ignored. I even told them if it’s extra $$ to do it I was fine with that. Now I likely need to ship the pcm back and waste more time not driving my car.

worst part is that I just blew the clutch in my BMW today so now I’m stuck driving the family SUV only.
I mean it’s still a twin turbo Volvo but it’s not fun to drive.

Should fuel pressure drop, even that small amount? I thought that indicated a fueling issue?

I hardly ever see 180* for my temp. Almost seems like it refuses to get any hotter than 178*.

Temp I’m happy with, and the fuel pressure dropping between 5-10psi is completely within spec and mine is actually higher than minimums by a good margin if I remember them correctly.

the fact that the car could rev to redline on NA tuning from a Hypertech programmer and not past 3000rpm with the ZZP pcm seems to me the tuning is the problem.
I couldn’t imagine that the NA tuning would be better fuel injection tables or MAF tables but the fact that it runs right up to 6800rpm without misfires seems kinda conclusive after testing the car with the scanner and fuel pressure gauge.
Is it possible I got a bad PCM?? I’m not sure but I’ll be swapping the pcm’s tomorrow and seeing how it runs. ZZP hasn’t let me down before but if it’s the pcm from them I really hope they pony up and take care of it.

Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last. They simply could've made an error and uploaded tables for the wrong mod set. Its an easy enough mistake to make.

I do wonder in general though, heads/ cam / IC / smallish pulley- why are you getting a canned mail order tune and not actually tuning it yourself / having it tuned by a pro to your exact car? Certainly your setup isn't an all out build, but its pretty far past basic bolt ons too.

I’m not aware of any good tuning shops near me in Ontario so I need the car to run well enough to make the drive to the USA once covid goes away. Then it will be getting a dyno tune. Covid has been horrible in many ways but it’s really hurting my build as well.

The plan wasn’t to go all out, just enough that my trans lasts a little bit because I’ve spent the budget for this season already.

As a NA car the best 1/4 run I ever did was a 13.49 pass and I just want low 12’s and I’ll be happy.

I had no idea the tuning scene was that bad up there. Sounds kinda crazy to have to drive to another country to get a tune, lol.

Don't have any local members up there with HPT or DHP? If you're just looking for something to make it run, you'd figure a local 3800 member could at least flash you a base map for the major changes to make it drivable for a few bucks.

Turbo Tim@ZZP is working with me now and he’s got the full mod list. I was capable of getting the CASE relearn to work because I caught the temp at 158* exactly. Still missed a little and had to give it 3x throttle snap to get it work. I don’t think my spark plugs are an issue but I’m going to swap them out anyway, not the first time I’ve had a faulty plug right outta the box. Just seemed strange the stock PCM with Hypertech Na tuning it was fine.
