Exclamation Guidance/opinion needed: Regarding top swap, cam, and valve train installation

Hey everyone at MCF I'm here for opinions and/or guidance. I have a 2002 Monte SS I'm doing a top swap off a 2000 GTP, that all is pretty much straightforward to do so don't need much help on that. Now the cam and valve train I might need some opinions or guidance on this all I got an XP cam from ZZP with double roller timing chain set, 7.05 pushrods, 140lb springs, LS7 lifters, and modified valve spring retainers. My question is do I need to do any head work to make this setup work or should it work with the stock l67 heads? Thank you in advance for the help

Should not need any head work with the xp cam but if there off why not port them or buy ported ones and take full advantage of the build. Just my .02

You got a good point. I just found out a guy I work with does port, polish, and machinist work on heads and he said he would do it all for two cases of beer so I'm most certainly doing this now. Thank you Turbo!

Just be careful porting these heads, if they are done wrong they will perform worse then factory heads do.

Oh that wouldn't be good lol. Well this guy says he knows what he's doing and said he's done a couple 3800 heads before so hopefully he does it all right

Why order pushrods before making measurements? Buy the measuring tool and get your zero lash length then add whatever pre-load length to that and order them up then. You don’t want it to be clacking or hanging the valves open slightly. Literally .005” too long or short can lead to problems.
