Default Leaky Cowl

Anyone else had a problem with a leaky cowl? My floorboards have been wet everytime it rains and I thought it was something to do with the floorboards. But today I noticed a small stream of water coming from under the dash. So I tore the cowl apart and found that there is a hole (from the factory) right next to the cabin air filter. I think if I weld a small piece of metal in there to cover up the hole, that will solve the problem. What do you think?

A lot of times when people replace the cabin filter, they incorrectly put the weatherstripping back on and that causes the water to run in

Well I also noticed that there was a little water in the corner of the filter closest to the oval hole. Theres a little bit of weatherstripping on the cowl that that kind of shriveled up that I will have to replace. I might just end up finding a thick piece of plastic and exopy that over the hole if I cant find a rubber plug

cut out a thin piece of metal (ie aluminum since it's easy to work with) or plastic oversized to your hole, run a bead of silicone around it and cover up the hole.

That sounds like a factory plug should go in there. I know that my
Impalas (from the '60's) have those in cowl & firewall...

You might ask a dealer parts guy - or check out a salvage yard ....
