Sorry to disagree with you Cowboy, but you can speed and get away with it, if you're smart about it. In 28 years of driving, I have NEVER been pulled over for speeding, let alone given a ticket for it. Even though I routinely break the "speed limit." I consider it more of a revenue enhancement limit.

I don't buy.

You speed you will get caught. Maybe not today but it will happen.

You do NOT want to follow me and look for people hitting their brakes. Why? I don't speed. Therefore I do not feel guilty and hit the brake pedal when a cop appears. If I do..... it's only cause the people infront of me feel guilty and hit their brakes making me hit mine.'

But we are all human and all tend to pass the posted speed limit from time to time. That's why I use my cruise control. Thankfully mine works below 35mph so I can use it in the city if need be.

As for driving the Monte hard or soft, I usually drive like I have some sense. I know if it breaks I have torepair it. This is how I drive all of my cars.

Also, for Becky, trust me on this, as soon as your son is out of visual range, he's nailing that bad boy, just as your husband is, too. You can't help it, really.
I'm sure you're right.

Speaking of breaking, that ugly, ugly, nerve wrecking, yellow-orange check engine lightdecided to show itselftoday. I have a code reader so will check it tomorrow after I worry all nightfearing the worst. Oh, how I hope it something simple - and cheap and that we can fix it. I just had the cat replaced about 3,000 miles ago. Nothing feels/sounds out of the ordinary. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me please. Maybe an O2 sensor since they've never been replaced.

Doesn't a loose gas cap cause the check engine like to come on in newer cars/trucks?

Have you checked this out?

That's what I was hoping for rj, but it's not. I went out and pulled the code this a.m., it's a P0404 code, EGR.
Changed the oil/filter, air filter, lubed the ISS, checked the brake pads, andthen spent the rest of the day researching EGR stuff when I had planned to be doing a nice detailing job.

Becky, there was a time when an EGR code ment you removed the EGR from the intake manifold and either cleaned or replaced the bad EGR.

Now days you need know:
1. Where to even locate the EGR under the hood.
2. Computer programming.
3. A master degree in EPA standards so you don't upset the balance of nature by working on your own car.
4. Be a master lock pick.
5. Have A/C training.
6. A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. (so you can half way understand the wiring for your car)
7. Have a second Monte Carlo of the same year and model so you can actually see how things are set up once you tear in to your car.
