Gas Milage
#32
We went on 180 miles round trip road trip to N. Chelmsfield, Mass this weekend. It was also the first highway trip since buying it. Filled up and reset everything before we left. Instantaneous was reading 28-32 most of the way with cruise control locked into 70 and average was reading 28 mpg by the time I reached Mass, but then I got lost in Lowell for and hour and a half and it dropped to 24 by the time we left. All and all we got 26 mpg by the time I filled back up when we got home, but I think we would have had close to 30 if I didn't get lost.
I'm very impressed with the mileage in this car. Who needs a 4 banger toyota when you can get the same fuel economy in a 240 HP supercharged monte. I'm even more impressed with the top end. Made a pass on the highway from 70-90mph and it still threw us back in the seat. I can't wait till we get out CAI and downpipe installed this week

Yes, keeping your foot out of the Gas helps TONS with any car! But its hard to do, especially with power!
Wayne, the reason your gas milage is so different from 60ish MPH to 75ish is because of wind resistance(drag). The faster you go, the more wind resistance. Each doubling of speed quadruples the amount of air resistance (drag). So 50-55ish MPH is really your optimum speed for the BEST fuel milage because its fast enough to be in 4th gear (O/D) and slow enough to not have a huge amount of air resistance. The fast you go past 50mph, the worse your milage will get. My car will literally get well over 30 MPG if I was to cruise at 65...but if I cruise at 90, it will get 24-25MPG. To fell the air resistance for yourself, stick your hand out the window at 50mph, and then stick your hand out the window at 80mph...huge difference. This is what your car has to fight through. In trucks the MPG difference in slower speed vs. higher speeds is even more apparent because trucks are not as areodynamic.

for some reason my car does not have one then.... as i have hit over 112 a ton of times. fastest ive gone in it is 130, and im sure it could do 140. i thought maybe it was governed just over 130 or something. my gf has a 2000 miata, and i have hit about 138 in it. so maybe not all cars had governers in 2000? neither car has any mods to the computer or whatev. ss just has exhaust and cai. and same for the miata plus a better clutch and sway bars.

MAMONTE, I have the same color, year and trim model as your vehicle. None of the sweet mods though, and I got 27.5 on this last tank of gas doing a split 50 city and 50 hwy. All city driving was around 23 to 24 mpg. The only thing I put into the vehicle thus far is a K&N air filter(i know it has bad reviews a of late), and a Tornado air insert. My computer tells me Im only averaging 21.1mpg. I think I need to reset the computer because since I bought the car in October of 08 it has only gone up 0.8 mpg on there, and I have not gone below 22 mpg.
Now that I have moved from home, I decided to buy the Tornado to see if it would help for the longer distances. So far it has, i should push over the 500 miles on this tank of gas as compared to the 400 before.

Yea def reset the computer, I reset it at every fill up...the calculate it about every 4 or so fill ups just to make sure it is accurate....
Your getting great milage for 50/50 driving...that more like the kind of milage I get with all highway driving....But then again, I have a very heavy foot, and when on the highway, I cruise between 80 and 90...so I don't drive for the best MPG...I'm sure if I drove with less foot into the gas all the time, and at slower speeds on the highway, i'd be right about where you are....

has any one used e3 plugs when they tuned up there cars i have gotten at least 26+ city normal driving. 55 to 80 mpg on hywy doing 65-75 just normal driving has most people been hammering there cars to see what different gas miles they get?
