A few days ago I started up my monte for a quick trip somewhere, but before I could even pull out onto the main street, my engine died on me out of nowhere. I got an insanely strong, unmistakable scent of gasoline and immidiately shut the key off. I opened my door, looked underneath the vehicle, and thought, "what in the hell..." as I was greeted by a fuel line dangling down, still flowing fresh gasoline onto the pavement. The plastic clip that connects the hardline from the fuel pump, to the filter, had disconnected. To be clear, I did replace the fuel filter, but I did so about four months ago. I noted that connector while I was changing the filter, and thought it was pretty strange to have only a little plastic connector, holding the filter to a presurized fuel line. I reattached the line, primed the pump a few times, and checked for leaks. None. Haven't had a problem since.

 

Glad it didn't turn into a serious issue.

 

Same here. I was just getting ready to pull out onto that main street when it happened. I'm super grateful it didn't happen right in the middle of that turn, because that intersection happens to be right on the end of a blind corner.

 

Those clips can break, but Dorman makes replacements. But they are darn reliable.

Man, I wish I could get a new fuel filter bracket!!! Mine is "OK", but not where NEAR that clean as your pic!!! GM does not make it anymore

 

Yeah, I think I got lucky with my Monte. It didn't have any engine or trans issues. The biggest issues at the time I bought it was a cracked windshield, which I replaced. And pretty extensive paint peeling, which i need to get around to fixing. I believe this cars been in Texas all its life, so absolutely no rust.
