Thats why I never suggested anyone to get rid of the key whole, because in an even simpler reason such as the battery disconnected would loose you access..

And Always make sure to check you pad every time before you go back and touch your paint, and wax in straight lines, that will help incase of error such as yours.

Anyways hope its stuff you can fix easily..
