Default Any progress on starting issue?

I have a 00 SS that has the starting problem that I have seen posted many times. It seems to just lose all power and, if I hold it, it will crank after a while. I have seen a few suggestions such as BCM, security module, ignition, and others. I want to know is there a better possible suspect to this problem and how have any of you that have had the problem fixed it. It has gotten much worse in the last two to three weeks. I have stopped using the remote which helped alot but it still happens more than I would prefer. I want to fix it asap as this is kinda a holdup on the progress of things. Please chime in with any info that you have.

So all the lights are dim and it won't crank immediately. Does it crank slowly, then speed up? If so, you should check your battery, alternator, and connections to both.

No it doesn't crank slowly or anything. Have checked all electrical connections and they are nice and tight. What happens is it just shuts down like a security override or something. I have to hold the key for 30-45 seconds and then it will crank like normal. There are alot of posts about the same problem and no one came up with a definitive solution. I was hoping someone had by now.

But for the first 30-45 seconds it won't crank at all? Or it just won't turn over until after 30 seconds of cranking? If that's the case, I'm calling a bad crankshaft position sensor.

If the security system is overriding the ignition, it'll flash it on the dash. Pretty damned hard to miss.
If its not, I'd check out the cps too.

Yeah that is the case, it just shuts off and after 30-45 seconds it cranks like brand new. How hard is a CPS to change.

I've never done it, but it shouldn't be too bad. You have to remove the belts and crank pulley, but that's about it.

It's easy. Just take off the serpentine belt, you're gonna need a special pulley puller. Check ebay for a 3800 crank pulley/harmonic balancer puller, they're pretty cheap. After you get the pulley off, you disconnect and unbolt the old sensor, bolt on the new, reconnect.

Tried to fix it myself and got the CPS on and working but same issue so I gave up and took it to my local chevy place. They put on a new MAF, a cat, and new air box and the thing is running like usual now. They didn't charge as much as I thought either. All that work was 476.22 with tax and all. The kicker is that they want like 500 parts and labor to replace my fan assembly and a fuse.
