2005 monte carlo

I turned my car on and then shifted into drive and then I noticed that smoke was coming from the vents, so I turned the car off immediately. Once the car was off I took the dash panel off and noticed that a tan colored wire that leads to the switch to dim the lights on the inside of the car. When I noticed where the wire was running to I tried to dim the lights inside of my car and it didnt work anymore and also the lights behind my odometer and the AC didnt work anymore.
I dont know if this has anything to do with it or not but my tail lights is a result of this mis hap...
does anyone have any type of clue what is wrong???
Another thing that I noticed is that when I turn my car on with my remote start the lights on the inside and the tail lights are on but when I put the car into gear they fade out until they are completely off.
