your radio antenna is built into the rear glass and on the newer cars the xm and onstar are built into the same antenna because onstar went digital instead of analog like it was b4
What is that thing that runs behind the driver's visor?

I think you're talking about the remote receiver too.

I have a 2001 SS with OffStar and have the small cell phone antenna. I removed the antenna long ago. It's just one more thing to get in the air stream. I also went into the trunk and disconnected all onstar equipment. Then about a year after I purchased the car, a sales rep called asking if I wanted to pay them $300 to get their service. I told them that I didn't want them tracking my car, and that I had disconnected all that equipment. He paused. He was dumbfounded that I would do such a thing. I ended the call. As you may be able to tell, I am unimpressed with their service. When I did have the trial service, I locked my keys in the car. I called onstar, expecting them to unlock the doors remotely. After trying for about 10 minutes, she couldn't do it. They dispatched a tech to jimmy the lock. It took him about 30 min to get it open. That was the last time I locked my keys in there.

My Onstar antenna fell off the back of the back window, bounced off my spoiler, and landed on the highway. I was tempted to go back for a split second but since it was rush hour I passed on that idea.

Hindsight says my car weighs less now and is more aerodynamic. =D

So far Onstar has been okay to me.

They've called twice now offering 100 minutes for $14.99 on the hands-free calling. I did take them up on the first offer. I've got till october, 2007 to use the minutes up.

They swear they don't track a vehicle till the customer requests it.
