Default Advice on buying an 86 monte carlo

So I'm the market for a Monte Carlo and am looking at a 1986 model, but I don't know very much about them so I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

It's being sold by a classic car dealership with a few locations around the country for $13,495.

Details: The 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is powered by a 377 CID V8 engine, backed by a 700r4 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission, running to a 10 Bolt Posi-Traction rear end with 4:10 gears. Options on this 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for sale include: AM/FM Radio with CD Player, Power Steering, Power Brakes , Tilt Steering Wheel, Seat Belts, Cloth Interior, Radial Tires, and Aluminum/Alloy Wheels. The engine is a rebuilt 400 CID block, with 4 bolt mains, that has been bored .030 over with a 350 CID steel crank giving it a 377 CID overall with only 1,300 miles since being professionally rebuilt. The heads are Dart II Sportsman Heads with 2.055 on the intake and 1.600 on the exhaust side with Stainless Valves. Other internal engine parts consist of 9.5 to 1 Keith Black Pistons, Hydraulic Camshaft (230 @ .050, and .512 of lift) with 1.6 Roller Rockers, Sealed Power Molly Piston Rings, B&B S.P.S Rod Bolts, Speed Pro .100 Long Hardened Push Rods, Cloyes True Roller Timing Set, and a Hi-Valve Oil Pump. On top of the built 377 CID small block sits an Edelbrock Victor Jr. Aluminum Intake Manifold (Port Matched), a Holley 750 CFM Double Pumper Carburetor, along with a Holly Hi-Performance Fuel Pump that feeds this beast. This awesome combination of parts brings the horsepower rating in at an estimated 460 Horsepower at 6,000 RPM! Other upgrades you will find on this awesome Monte Carlo include: All New Cloth Interior (Carpet, Headliner, Seats, and Door Panels), New Fuel Tank with Drop Tank and 3/4" Stainless Steel Braided Fuel Lines, New Posi-Trac 4:10 rear end gears, Hooker Headers, 3" Dual Exhaust with Thrush Mufflers, Line Lock for the front brakes (perfect for the track or to do burnouts for your friends).

The deep black glossy paint job on this Monte Carlo was done right and has a great custom flame paint scheme on the front half of the car. This high end paint job consists of 6 different shades of flames that flip flop colors as you look at it from different angles and was then topped with 7 Coats of clear coat! The odometer reads 77,528 miles which are actual miles to the body of this car which is an added bonus and it also comes with a clean Auto Report. If you are looking for a sweet ride that stands out from other Monte Carlos from this era, you have found it here! This Monte Carlo SS would be an all around great car to take on a long cruise, a day at the drag strip, or to a car show.

Does it sound like this car will last me at least the next 7 years?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum and thanks for asking!

The question you pose is a tough one to answer...
What do you plan on doing with it?

Depending on where you live.... (since you haven't filled out your profile)
Its a hard question to answer.... If you plan on just sunday drives and car shows...that would be a very simple question answered with a yes.

If you are storeing it in Mint condition between seasons.

However,
If your planning on making this your daily driver..Thats not going to be easy to answer either. Depends how you drive. How well you maintain it.
This doesn't sound like a vehicle you could just beat the snot out of and think its going to last. That's not going to happen... unless you can afford to fix it everytime something goes bad or breaks!
If I were to buy this vehicle for instance, It would strictly be a Sunday cruise vehicle and Car Shows.
You also have to remember can you afford to put a higher grade gas in it all the time.... This is by no means a economy car that's going to get good fuel mileage... It sounds to me like a performance vehicle considering there ad says you can take it to the Drag Strip..

If your considering it as a daily driver... and want it to last... It all depends on what you plan on doing with it.... Unless you have very deep pockets... My answer would be no (as a daily driver)... That's my 2 cents.

Maybe someone else will chime in with some advice as well.
Good luck.

Thank you for your advice. I'll add a few more details.

I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts so you can guess the weather conditions it will go through. It will not be garage kept and will be exposed to the weather everyday. I do plan on making it my daily driver, but I don't drive very far, maybe 20 miles a day and that's rounding up. I don't beat the snot out of my cars mainly because there is no place to do it. As for the premium gas, i used to drive and A4 so I'm used to that and the MPG probably wont be to different. I want a head turner when I drive down the road and this car will definitely do it in my town. If you need more info let me know.

they also have a video of the car starting up and going for a short drive in the show room

If it is going to go through that weather, it would be a 100% waste of a good car in my opinion. You are taking a car with a really nice, awesome paint job and ruining it, and don't act like you would be able to keep it up. There is just no way.

I suggest finding a stock 80s ss for much cheaper if you are set on one. Then if it rusts away, it won't kill you to watch.

Not to mention the 305 will get better gas mileage, and considering you say you have no place to beat the snot out of the car, having the 377 in there is going to be useless to you as well. I had a double pumper on my 350 and I couldn't drive 20 miles on a 1/4 tank in town.

That car is cool, but as a daily it doesn't make sense. Head turners are fun, but not when you are 20 minutes late for work and are trying to avoid a cops detection.

Also, that thing has 4:10 gears and pretty darn short tires. At highway speeds you will be turning some pretty decent RPMS even with overdrive.
