Default 3.8 Engine Fire Recall

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I'm posting this because yesterday I finally took the 99 Z34 in to have the 3.8 liter engine fire "fix" performed. I knew that part of the "fix" was to remove the original plug wire retainer and "INSTALL TWO NEW SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS" in its place. Well, knowing that the dealer would toss the old retainer, I had the foresight to remove it myself and keep it at home. In the meantime, I ziptied the plug wires together and ziptied them to the engine lift to keep them off the manifold. Well, I get the car back from the dealer, after the "fix", and all my zipties are still in place, and the "two new retainers" are cheesy plastic clips that hold the wires together, but don't mount in any way to the engine. It looks totally half ***, but I've seen photos of other members "fix's" and this appears legit. I'm putting the old retainer back on this weekend. I don't have an oil leak now and would fix one if I did, so I don't see MY car bursting into flames!

I did the same with the '03 Pace car. When I saw what GM considered a "Fix" I knew I wanted the original parts left on the car.

The dealer agreed if I signed off on the recall. They would give the two plastic clips to me (just in case) and I'd be on my way.
