i've got a 03 monte ss 3.8l. just done some knn fipk, tb spacer and new mufflers! i'm looking to increase the spark! i was looking at the msd dis-4 and it's quite costly! i was wondering if anyone has installed the dis-4 and if it's worth the bucks and was wondering if it's not worth it, if just putting 3 new coil packs in would do the same? cause a few mornings ago i turned the car on to let'er warm up and i was getting a slight ticking coming from one of the coils the tick has not reoccured lately, so this is why i'm interested in either increasing the fire or just changing the coils.

 

from what i've heard the stock setup is very hard to beat.

 

if you want better spark, it is all in the PCM. the stock coil system puts out pleny of power... and it hasnt been fully provent but the MSD has been said to not put out any more V then the stocker's!

but either way the stock system has powered cars well into low 10's in the 1/4 mile! and i believe the current record holders also used a stock ign setup as well 9.01@150+mph

so invest in either a tuner to adjust the spark settings.... or find a company that will sell a pcm that has modified spark settings... but without custom tuning additional spark will be risky. safe your self the fustration and just get a tuner... DHP power tuner or the HPTuners the diablo and hypertech are toys and not worth the money... so dont waiste it!

X2 on the Tuner. I have an HP Tuners and once spring comes around and I pull the Monte from storage I will be playing with spark and air/fuel mixture.
