Guide: How to reset low tire pressure monitor
#31
I did not know that my 02 Monte SS had a TPMS until the low tire pressure warning popped up on the dash last week. I went to the nearest free air and checked the tires, low and behold the right front tire was down 5 lbs. I added the five pounds and reset the low tire warning as per owners manual. I went to my tire store and had a nail in the tire, had it fixed. Apparently the tires don't have tpms sensors in the tires but use the speed sensor in the wheel hubs to measure difference in wheel speed to detect lower air tire pressure. I checked all the tire pressures a few days later and four different psi's so adjusted all to the factory 30 psi, going to have some choice words with my tires store on the next visit.

Tried
Tried this and it worked, really happy to not have any dash lights on 👍

Newer wheels
So I am getting some wheels off a late model Impala, and of course it has tire sensors. Any way to make these work with a 2005 MC? Since it doesn't use a position sensor I gather it works when one tire is 5 pounds lower than the others?

No way for those tire stem sensors to work with your car, it will use the wheel hub still.

Probably just an error with the years.
In 2006 they switched to the valve stem style
All of our 2000+ cars had a TPMS system technically. The car monitored the revolution of all of the tires, and if one was off it was assumed to be low on air.

What cat do you run? Anything special? This thing is stock so I don't see a need for something high flow. Do you run a resonator?

I use a hollow one, and have it completely tuned out of my car. I drive MAYBE 2000 miles a year and am exempt from emissions testing. And yes, I have a GMPP cat-back exhaust, which is an unbranded Magnaflow system that GM partnered with and it runs a shorter 18" resonator.

Again, I realize this is an old thread, , , , but none of that worked for my car. I got some Firestones on the front that are constantly going soft, but usually both are going down and don't set off the sensors. I had only one go down and the sensor tripped the light, the radio wasn't the right one to work in my car (didn't have the option on it) and I tried at least a dozen times with the light switch, and nothing worked. I just unhooked the battery for a few seconds and that does the trick. I try to do it at noon so I don't have to reset the clock!)
