@Taz - great post on the basics of battery replacment. I just did my 05 SS and I think you missed a few steps:

Not sure why mine was a PITA...but I had to take the cap off the fuse block that is attached to the wheel well, unbolt the battery harness from the fuse block, undo some blue connector, push the harness down in the engine compartment... that was just getting the stuff out of the way.

Then I had to slide the battery sideways, rotate 45 degrees, and gingerly stand it on end to get it past the fuse block...without breaking it.

Major obstacles were the fuse block and core support behind the headlight.

Again, not sure why mine was so painful, but I'm glad I bought a battery with a 7 year warranty...

Just to add something here ...

I just wintered my 2003 SS, & removed the battery for the winter storage ... Obviously I removed the bar & the wedge mount. Then upon removal, I could NOT get it out without removing the radiator cap.

What an oddball.

Ugh.

I know, I know. First *new* post in nearly a year and a half, but I am new here, & am slowly making my way through the nooks & crannies of MCF.

I poke my head when I feel appropriate ... & when I feel I will not get it ripped off.

The radiator caps on SS and LS models are in the same place aren't they? that's weird.

Lol it's funny that this thread pops up. I changed my battery in the dark and cold a little over a week ago. Wasn't fun but I'd done it before on W-bodies and so it didn't take me but 15 minutes. Make sure you don't knock the hose leading to your coolant overflow tank loose from the it. I did that and didnt' realize it till I popped the hood after it was light again (didn't have a flashlight handy I did it all basically blind)
