It's hard for me to say. I built SBC's,, well about two a every year. I look at this motor and understanding your needs. I see here a well build, slightly under powered , two bolt main. I'm not going to say anything about the total price, but I charge $1000 to pull\build\install a motor + parts and extra crap. You'll pay 3K plus the engine swap.
I'm going to tell you an estimate ofhow much money in parts thismotor has in it. If everything is new it has about $1650-$1850 in it. I even added $200 for the core charge\machine work of the motor.
Remember it's an under cam'ed, two bolt main.
I promise you, you'll love the XE268 or Voodoo 60103. You'll get close to 355 hp and 390ft/lbs out of both at flywheel. What your looking at on ebayis a good stout motor with stock internals. Just I would build for you but cheaper.
Go to your local machine shop and I know they know a good\cheep builder, if they don't do it there self on the side.

yeah i can see that motor doesnt seem to meet my every need. ineed to find someone who knows engines and can build me exactly what i want. my mechanic said he wouldnt even do it. is there anyone in PA that would be able to do this at a reasonable price? prefrebly between 2-4 grand? and also my transmission was number 3. TH350, would this work with a 350?

I called Superior Automotive Machine Incorporated in Allentown,, I talked to the guy for about 10min. He was very nice. He said he doesn't rebuild them himself. I asked if he knew anyone dependable and he said it had slowed down a lot there,,, as far as custom rebuilds.
I got to go, but I'll look further into it. There has got to be someone that does good work.
If you need some machine work done,, I'd go there. He said he has been doing it for 30yrs and was very nice. Tell him the Mississippi guy sent ya .

Well they do know a lot of DIY builders. The guy I talked to said he has many DIY guys come in,,, he just didn't want to recommend without actually knowing how well they are. I'm sure theyhave guys come in regularly. I mean I go to my shop on a somewhat regular basis, but they haven't seen my work in person.
Heck if there is a car show and see a chevy you like,, ask them who did the engine or at the gas station. Don't trust just trust the first one you talk to,,, not that you would. They need to have picture or someone you can talk to and not just a good buddy.
I know there is someone in your area that does good work. I would have called more, but Iam working on three cars\truck right nowplus I have a full time job 6-7 days a week.
What kind of automotive work have you done yourself?

 

i dont have any mechanical skills at all. i dont know what stuff would be best for an engine...like you could make a fast 350 by a choice of parts you choose to put in the engine. i wouldnt know anything about that. i wish i did understand how to do engine work myself so i could do it! i have lots of time on my hands.
