I am currently running a 350 SBC in my 84 with a TH350 with B&M Shift kit. I shift manually with a B & M Z-Gate shifter. I was told the 350 sbc came out of a 1978 or 79 Camaro(can't find the #'s on the engine to know for sure). Stock cam from what I was told but I do not know that for sure as I have not dug into it to find out. Running long headers with full exhaust until I fix that in a few weeks to cut outs and glass packs with turn outs. Stock cast intake but changing to aluminum dual plane intake. 600 cfm 4bbl edelbrock carb manual choke and manual secondaries. HEI distributor. Stock rear end gears. Not sure what other information I can give or need to give.

By the end of the season I was shifting at 5200 RPM consistently from 1st to 2nd. I go to nearly the 1/8 mile before I shift from 1st to 2nd and then as I cross the 1/4 mile I am once again at 5200 RPM so I slap it into 3rd and begin slowing. While racing, if I slap it into 3rd, it just turns into a big blue turd and it has no pull like it does in 1st and 2nd.
If I am shifting at 5200 RPM, I am pretty darn close to redline if the above information is true. Is my shift point too high?
I haven't been on the drag strip to race for over 40 years, However the Chevelle with the 396 seemed to run the best when I dumped the Clutch at near 3500 rpm off the line it had the best time and I think we finally were running 12 something in the 1/4 mile. They thought I was running an automatic but that was just the was it sounded when you have the speed shift perfected.
Then when I purchased the 70-1/2 z/28 Camaro, now the Z/28 wrapped up a lot quicker then the Chevelle. I think I was shifting sooner and got there just a bit quicker. I never ran a race with an automatic, I think the Chevelles tach redlined about 56 to 5900 and the Z was closer to the 5200 you mentioned.
But this was a long time ago so I am just guessing from what I can remember.
All the stuff I had back in the day was lost in a flood so the tidbits are all I have. I really like this forum cause you are bringing back some of the fun memories. Also brings back the sad memories when my wife thru out a bunch of my Auto parts before we moved to a different place.

Someone threw out car parts????? Oh no no no!!! LOL
It's probably best I don't have a significant other as I have no room in the closet...its where I keep my car parts, racing stuff, and tools!!! And I am NOT getting rid of my car parts, racing stuff OR tools!!! hahaha

Yeah a completely stock SBC will redline at 5500 with best power at around 4500 but is just ballpark.
Had a quick look at you site I see you have a 600 eddy carb. Probly have a matching intake?
Do you have headers and duals? Did you swap out the cam??
That's all things that will change the power band

I will just keep my shift point at 5200 then and hopefully I will continue to be ok.
