The FR9 option is the final gear ratio. Each engine option has a different final gear.
LS, has 3.27 gear ratio
Super charged, has 2.83 gear ratio
SS has 3.27 gear ratio.
If you put the wrong trans in any of these cars you may have a working trans but the PCM thinks it's bad because your trans speed does not match what your PCM thinks it should be. There for, you get a CEL code.

As for the shop. I asked him for the least expensive option, since my budget is Very Tight. A straight swap fits that bill. Putting in new filter and fluid. To add parts is to add to final cost. Money I don't have!

He was working with salvage yards he has trust in. True I could find a trans too but I don't know what I am getting. And the next time my Trans comes out of my car I want it to be because I can afford to have T.E.P. do a complete upgrade to it.

 

but he wants to get one from california? i am sure that there are a number of trustworthy junk yards in that list i provided. all you have to do is go to the junkyard and see how ish is ran around there. you can tell a lot just by how things look when you come in.

the junkyard has no idea how any car was driven before they got there hands on it. you take the same risk going to one junk yard vs. another. even then, most of these places do offer warranty's on their stuff. i would assume most of them are 90 days for transmissions.

there are many options for under $500 and installation shouldnt be more than a $300-$500, so in all honesty, you could have this done for $600-$1000.

 

I know but it's more a budget thing than anything else. The old lady told me we would have the funds but then they went to Other things. Doesn't help that we both had EXTRA days off last week. Hopefully she gets this job she is interviewing for today. It will kick us up 2 tax brackets!
