What would I need to do to use a Gtp either a 97 or 98 trans in my 00 Monte Carlo L67 swap

 

What transmission do you currently have?

If you already did an L67 swap, you should be able to use either tranny, but I'd go with a 98-03. If you have your Monte's tranny in there now, you'll need to tune the PCM for the different gear ratio.

 

I have the stock l32 trans an my buddy is giving me his Gtp trans for some work if I don't get it tune for the gears right away what would happen? An can I use a hp tuner with out having to register my PCM to that tuner?

 

I think the L32 and L67 transmissions had the same ratio, but I'm not 100% sure. If they are the same you won't need to change the tune.

But you would need to use credits with an HP tuner to modify your tune.

 

You can read the tune off the car without credits, but you can't SAVE the file. You need to register the car with HPT to make and save the changes and upload them back.

 

^Same thing as the Powrtuner. You read the tune but can't upload one. But the Powrtuner is free to do that lol

 

Ok so a 97 or 98 trans would work in my 00 Monte Carlo an how do I know if it's a hd trans or a regular trans but the car is a Gtp

 

IIRC all GTPs had HD transmissions. Now there were some 97's that had 4t60e transmissions, where you'd be looking for a 4t65e. I'm not sure if GTPs in 97 had 60e or 65e, or if they were a mix of them. That's why I'd go with a 98.

 

I'd stick with 98+ on the Grand Prix. Some electronics were different on the 97 and the trans might be included.

Also anything after 2003 you should avoid because they changed an electronic on the trans again and your 2000 might not plug to it.

 

Ok cool so if the trans is a 97 could I switch the harness inside it from my 00 to the 97 trans an if I don't get it tuned right away would I be able to at lease test drive it to make sure it works?
