ticking noise went away?!
my 96 monte carlo has had this ticking noise for the longest time, from a motor that was put in it a few years ago. i was told it had the noise when the motor was put it, it's pretty loud and makes my car sounds like crap, but some how it magically went away! what could have caused this?!

Hard to say what caused it to go away without knowing the cause or where-abouts in the engine that the tick was.
Is it a 3100 powered car? I know the 3100/3400 engines are known for some light ticks. My wife did have a 3100 Grand Am that developed a NASTY tick when cold (loud, suspected lifter issue). We got rid of it with Motor Honey (had to add Motor Honey for about 3 oil changes and finally it was no longer needing it and no more tick, we suspect the detergents in the Motor Honey cleaned up some gummed up parts).

Depends on the "tick". Again, the 3100 and 3400 is KNOWN for a light sounding tick noise. I'm driving a '94 Grand Am and my wife has an '05 Impala (3100 and 3400 engines), they BOTH have a tick. The Grand Am has 210K miles on it (I started with 86K). It's normal.
A LOUD tick, is abnormal.
