I have a 96 monte carlo ls and i just put a new motor in it and its got a loud ticking noise at all times.... what could the problem be??? can anyone help me out please!!!

 

It could be a number of things, all of which are not good.

If you are lucky, it could be a loose sparkplug or major exhaust leak at the manifold or at the flange.

If you are not lucky, I hope your "new" engine is under warranty.

Bad valve, bad lifter, bad bearing, bad rod, etc. etc. etc. all contribute to some form of "clicking" noise from inside the engine and can cause further major damage very quickly.

 

lifter tick lifter tick lifter tick mine does that when cold in fact every engine ive put in with this configuration has this problem. but yeah thats just my .02 i hope im wrong

 

well its not when its just cold its at all times!!! evertying is brand new in the motor!!

 

mine was brand new too and it still does the same thing, its a factory defect im betting

 

i vote for exhaust leak or lifter slap


my first thought was an exhaust leak..and it could be when they put the new motor in then the manifolds didn't fit properly and needed to be machined(which happens a lot when putting a new motor in)

 

Im also gonna go with lifters. Im not sure about the v-6's but when I put the new 383 in my pick up truck I had to adjust the lifters for about a day. you know, with the engine off half crank, adjust, half crank, adjust, half crank, adjust, it was a pain, but they never tickked after that.
