To be entirely honest, this would be quite a task. Your best bet would be to go BUY a 3800 Series II L67 and be done with it. The work involved in making a 3100 try to handle the power of a S/C would be near impossible.

No matter how you slice it, you're looking at around at least 1100 bucks for a used L67 Block... and while it wouldn't be plug and play, it would be pretty close...

Hope that helps...

HiBrendon.
I remember hearing about the old style Pontiac Sunbird GT from the early 90's with the 2.8 / 3.1 engines being turbocharged. But I never actually saw one with the hood open, so I don't know exactly how the factory did it. I don't believe it made much of a difference though. Because the Z24 had the same engine without the turbo, and it went just a fast. If your 3.1 is the same as the early 90's 3.1, it's the same block as the old 2.8's just bored out. I also remember quite a few of the turbo'd Sunbirds cracking the block between the cylinders.

I don't know how long you plan on keeping your '97 or how much money you want to invest into it. But there's a number of things you can do to your 3.1 without supercharging it. When I had my '91 Z24 with the 3100 engine, I replaced the exhaust from front to back with 2.75 inch pipe, high flow cat and muffler. I replaced the air intake system with a K&Nair intake. Platinum plugs, performance wires and ignition system. Plus a couple other things I can't remember right now.

I believe the 3100 came from the factory with 140 to 145HP, depending on the tranny you got. If your going to spend wads of cash supercharging your 3.1, upgrade to a different engine. The most popular suggestion would be the 3.8, but the 3.4 that came in themid 90's Monte Carlo and Luminas put out a heck of a punch. If you do entertain the idea of a 3.4, make sure it's not from a'99 to '03 model. Since those years had major issues with the lower intake manifold gasket failing on a regular basis.

Sorry for the long post. Nice car. Low miles too.

the 3.1 is a stroked 2.8 not a bored 2.8
and if your car is a 97 it has a 3100 not 3.1 so you mite be in luck with a kit that would take few modifications to work RSM racing makes a supercharging kit for the 3400 and the 3100 is basicly the same so that mite work !
but i heard bad things about them im not sure if it was bad products or bad service one of the two
and another way you could go is full custom kit made by you! there is alot of good centrifugal superchargers out there you just gotta make brakets to bolt it up and run some ducting
