Default Is supercharging even worth it?

I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8L and i've looked into supercharging it, but it seems that it would be cheaper to just buy a 350 and bore it out. Would it fit? And i know supercharging it would cause lots of strain on the trans, would you have to replace that along with a computer?

Thanks for any feedback, i'm new here. I'll work on gettin some pics up..but my camera is bein gay.

no a 350 will not fit in to our cars if they are the 03 versions. the older versions yeah they fit in there easily and look and run nice

As far as the S/C/ being worth it? yes and no. If you want it then sure it is If you dont then it is not.
there are good and bad points to installing them
i personnaly would love to get one but dont have the cash to do so right now. But i have also looked in to going with a turbo instead of the S/C just for the strain a S/C puts on the parts of your car.

As far as the tranny gose this has been a weak link in cars since the dawn of time. Some can be built to hold up to almost anythign but others are junck and always will be.
With a front wheel driver it is hard to get a tranny that will beabel to put up with alot of abuse as a STOCK Trans. NOW if ya build them right they can be more then capabel of handeling that small factory S/C

You can get a 350 into our cars, I saw it on another forum, but you need to invest about $20,000 changing the car to rear wheel drive.

A better option is going with a Cartuning turbo. Easy install, higher boost, safer, and easier on the tranny.

well there is one person i know of who has a FWD LS1 in a grandprix! had countless one of a kind parts... and there also is a 5th gen monte carlo with a Northstar V8 but again all of these were one of a kind projects that cost tons of money... the Northstar monte had a very bad time at finding tranys that wouldnt BLOWUP! wonder why lol he did say he own a few burnout comp's though lol

as with the first thing anyone should do when moding... ask your self how fast you want to go... and if you want this as a daily driving car or just a weekend toy... a famous quote " fast cheep relyable... you can only pick two" live by those words that pretty much covers all of moding.

personally if i had a 3800 NA i would have SC by now. for HP per doller its your best bet. you can find whole engines on ebay, totaled cars with them ect.i would deff recomend a tuner if your swaping the SC onto your NA engine because it is higher compression then the SC's block... 9.4 vs 8.5 this will cause more Knock issues but nothing a good tune cant fix.... personally i am using a NA block for my GTP during this rebuild because it has potential for more power. i would also take steps to beef up the trany if your going beyond just the basic SC swap IE moding the SC after the install. if you just run the SC with no mods and a mild tune and you dont beat on the car you prob can get away with the NA's trany.

hope that helped... Welcome to the Board!
