Smoking

My 87 monte has one flaw, when i start it cold, it gives a slight puff of oil smoke..then goes away..not using any oil...whatta ya think guys??car has 86k for milage..car was well maintained every record was kept...Engine is 305 4bbl stock w/headers i installed..valve seals maybe???

Either the valve seals or piston rings.

Last year i bought some HO heads but havnt done anything w/them..Maybe ill have then done over and install...Performance wise i dont think ill seea lot, but may eliminate the smoking problem...

If it only smokes briefly on startup, I second valve seals. If it were the rings it would smoke constantly and get worse the harder you run it.

it is the valve guid seals like mrl390 said i would replace them. on the bright side if you take the heads off if any you can get the heads ported and polished while there off and be able to get the coper colered guides they have a better life span.
