Angry shifter button help

hey guys i know it probably seem like i only get on now when i need something but i have just been busy at work and i just bought a house but i do have a problem. i got home today and i couldn't shift into park everything else was fine. i took the cable off and i could push the tranny to park. so after i started to play around with the shifter i found out if i push the button in really hard it would shift. so i guess it has to be the button does it connect to anything or just stuck in the shifter. and would it be easy to take off and replace thanks for any help you could offer

sounds to me like your linkage cable is worn. cheap fix. im pretty sure its casued by ppl not pressing the button and hitting the brake when they shift, or old age.

You take the handle off be carefull the button and spring don't go flying because they will. Under the handle there should be a plastic insert in the shifter lever if you can push that down and it shifts fine the button I. The handle is worn out. I have seen that happen on grand prixs and impalas so you probably just need a new shifter handle. I've rigged a few in my time so that it's depressed all the time and then you can put a different shifter on it and only need to press the brake to move it from park
