PCM SWAP
I was sitting thinking, In the older cars the odometer was a actual wheel type gauge that spun on a shaft that kept track of mileage. now my car has a digital gauge, now what stores the milage information??? if you swap a pcm the milage doesnt change...and it doesnt have to do with the battery or else anytime you undid your battery you would loose that information....
I know milage fraud is a huge problem but has gotten better...How does this work

RE: PCM SWAP
some of the digital clusters on some cars have their own solid state memory somthing like a SD card for an example.... but im pretty sure new montes store the milage in the BCM... (not the Pcm) BCM = Body Control Module... controls alot of features in the car that dont deal with the engine managment....there for its not in the PCM =Power Control Module.

Desso3 and Phoenix
is correct
we have digital dashes at work, once you change out the speed o with a new one it start at 0 again
If you hook up the scan tool it will tell you what the true mileage is. You can not change the mileage
on the odmeter. Some companys claim that there units will read what the bcm and will install that mileage but so far we have not been able to do it.
