I hated that noise! Mine did it too, I thought it was the tensioner on mine but it ended up being the power steering pump making that noise, as weird as it sounds. I think mine was a unique case though. Hope you get it figured out and fixed!

doesnt sound like its coming from the PSP on mine, its coming from the alternator/tensioner area cant be the PSP because it didnt do it before the swap lol
and this tensioner is from the L26 motor.. i knew i shouldve kept my old one lol

Haha yea should have held onto it. Oh well, on a brighter note at least it's not that expensive of a part. It's mostly just labor, you don't seem to have a problem with that. lol

Haha yea. Well at least it's just more new things on your Monte! You should be good to go for another 200k at this rate.

I'm finally getting caught up on MCF....
First - CONGRATS! Glad it's back together!
Second - Before you do ANYTHING, take the belt off and free spin the pulleys by hand. A noise like that you should hear/feel it when spinning them. I think it's a tension issue. If it's the tensioner pulley, that's CHEAP, but if it's the entire tensioner, that will cost a little more. In that case, find one in a junk yard. My experience is they rarely fail.

You have to replace that when you top-swap anyway, I guess it's time

j/k

I agree, spin everything by hand and make sure it's the culprit first
