Default misfire/sputter??

I recently got my 2000 mc ss and have been tinkering and figuring out whats all wrong with it as i go. usually tranny shifts pretty smooth and motor runs like a champ. but yesterday as I was going up a long hill on the highway in the monte misfired and then continued to like sputter and misfire. I tried to pull to the side and when i braked the car shutoff. it started right back up and continued to jump rpms(like under 1 to 2 1/2) it would like rev up and down like that with me giving it gas or even without gas. so i gave it more gas and away she went. but it does have me worried now. any ideas on where to start. the plugs and wires have just been recently changed. A guy at work has a scanner and is going to check it tonight too.

See where the scanner brings you, right now it could be many things. Fuel filter, coil packs, a mis-set plug, cat, etc.

so after the scan i found out it is throwing a misfire cylinder 3.(changed plugs and wires)
and MAF.
the maf i believe could be either due to the maf sensor going bad or a fuel filter. Ive heard fuel filters can do screwy things to a car. so im gonna take the car to my mechanic and have him give er a look too.
