Home Stretch for the Whipple Build
-Lowers (one under the engine, one under the trans)
-Uppers, square (radiator side of the dogbones)
-Uppers, round (engine side of the dogbones)
Poly in general does transfer more vibration but also reduces engine movement. 'Too much' vibration is very subjective. GM tried to design mounts as a tradeoff between how much vibration is transmitted to the body vs how much the engine moves on takeoff and shifts (which can also impact NVH if the engine is rocking everywhere on shifts).
IMO for a stock or near stock application, I wouldnt waste my money on aftermarket mounts. The performance gain is negligible. If yours are damaged now, I would just reinstall new stock mounts. Longevity shouldn't be an issue unless you have other issues or are planning to put crazy mileage on the car.
If you want a little more engine feel, you can always rotate the upper square mounts 90 degrees for free.
On my monte, I've got both uppers in poly, and I've got solid rubber lowers. I was trying to get engine 'feel' into the car without becoming annoying. At the same time, I understood there would be no tangible performance gain, it was just about enhancing the experience for me.

Love you explanation on the poly vs rubber mounts issue Bumpin! Before I did poly on my upper rad and dog bone bushings, that was exactly what I have read and 100% agree.
I'm happy with my poly bushings over all, if I over tighten the connecting bolts, IMO vibration is BAD. But when everything is "just right", gives you a little extra engine feel, the theory is I don't loose power/torque as the engine rocking when hitting the gas (but I'm not sure that theory was ever truly proven anywhere and if so the results have to be so small it's difficult to guarantee that those mounts were a factor).
I'm happy with the poly uppers, if this was a daily driver, I'm not sure I'd be as happy.
Anycase, great explanation on the topic!

I think im in the wrong section but you guys seem to know all about MC's. which fuel injectors are better Delphi or ac delco. My car is basically stock beside a CAI and magnaflow exhaust. Im also looking for a deep growling sound exhaust...any suggestions. thanks in advance
I don't think it'll ever be truly finished. It seems like with every completed project, another few start up in the planning stages down the road. I think that's a big part of the reason why I still have it. It's hard to get bored with a car when it's always changing (and when you don't drive it for a few years, lol).
Summer is starting to finally wind down here. We're getting days every now and then that aren't in the triple digits. With monsoon season wrapping up, I still wouldn't trust driving with the weather. We still have occasional dust storms and heavy rains that pop up randomly from time to time.
The upside is that all of the major projects are done. There are a few simple brackets that need to be made, and the pcv still needs hooked up, bit it's all really minor stuff.
The big thing right now is getting the tune dialed in. I've been having a really hard time finding injector tables for the 3800 for these 110# Bosch injectors. I winged it for the initial startups, but I really need something a lot closer to make the tuning go easier. I've reached out to PRJ and a few of the clubgp guys that were in on the group buy years ago, hopefully one of those leads turns up tables that worked for them.
Once I get it back on the road, the next major project is going to be the hood. I don't want to have to worry about the weather in the off chance I do get caught in afternoon showers, plus I don't really want the sun breaking down all the rubbers and such. Still not sure what I'm going to do yet. I still have my 3" cowl hood, so I can either modify that to fit or I can build a new hood from scratch. Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter so I can keep the existing hood in tact for after the rwd conversion.

Hi `Chad, I've enjoyed re-reading your thread or catching `up with your progress on your super `Monte Project.
I do believe that you are on the HOME STRETCH, but I think you will always have pit stops during your Monte `Journey

I admire your dedication & talent & love what you have accomplished.
I'm sure that you will reach the finish line,

but with everyone that crosses a finish line, there's always another race or modification to make + maintain. Wish you the very best on getting your Monte the way you want it 2 `be....I hope it remains a never ending >>>Fun Project for you & yours to EnJoy > Good Luck

I've been pushing a little harder over the last few weeks. We've finally had a break in temperatures here lately, so I'm starting to get ready to get her back on the road.
As a part of that, I need to replace the wheel studs. I've got one broken on the passenger side, and the rears don't have near the thread engagement that I would like due to the spacers I'm running. Of course with this knuckle setup you have to take the hub out which was a nightmare. The bolts were rusty so one broke, and I damaged the seal trying to pound it out.
Also, I bought some low mileage oem gtp axles. When I did my swap, everyone said the drivers side axle would work. Unfortunately the 4t60 axle spline count didn't match so I had to go out and buy a cheapo aftermarket axle to scavenge the inner joint. So now I'm proactively replacing it with an oem axle. Also, the passenger inner axle is cracked so I've got a replacement for it too.
While I was pulling everything apart, I noticed a few things from back when I did the swap that just needed redone - mainly the lower ball joint and outer tie rod end.
So I've ordered some replacement parts - new hubs, outer tie rod ends, and lower ball joints. I also ordered some replacement struts too since these have 100k on them. I already have new arp studs and the aforementioned low mileage oem gtp axles with two napa boot kits.
As long as I've got everything apart, I've also been thinking about switching to coilovers. I've started reading up on the diy coilovers and will try and order parts this week.
Below are a few pics of the latest fun

You can see the cheap aftermarket inner axle in this pic

Oem axle pulled apart and cleaned up. I think I'm going to transfer over the tripot too just to make sure I don't have any odd wear issues.

Here's a shot of the donor knuckle. Definitely a lot better than the 1.5 gen setup. If I planned to stay fwd permanently, I definitely think it's worth doing a conversion.

And my rusty current knuckle. Even if I don't do coilovers, I'll still at least sandblast it and repaint it to keep it from getting any worse. The rust doesn't appear to be structural, just a lot of surface rust.

On a side note, I did try sticking a ctsv caliper up against the mount holes to see if they were anywhere close. Unfortunately, the mount holes don't line up. It looks to be rather simple to have a new caliper mount made to weld on, but it's too much hassle at this point since I want to get it back on the road soon.
