Fuel Pressure Testing with video!
Ok so it was cold so my hands were a bit shaky. Also I may have used the wrong terms for thing twice haha it was cold. Also I don't know what the cuel pressure suspose to be but currently researching. Another thing the guy at autozone said that its suppose to hit the pressure and go down until you cut the car on. I don't know if that's true or not but other vids say there is suspose to be a constant pressure once the car is in the on position. But let me know what you guys think and enjoy

I looked in the shop book. If you PM me an e-mail address I can send you a PDF of the diagnostic chart. But basically, it sounds like there is no dead set "this is what it should be number. It's got a series of steps to look at.

K jason I pm'd ya, Ive searched a few threads on here about the issue and I saw that most pol say the pressure is about to be around 50, and once the car is in the on position the pressure is suspose to be constant. Also seen a few vids like the same where once the car was turned off there still was pressure. Idk this sure is frustrating

For an '01 fuel pressure should be 50lb ± 3lb. Yours is slightly low, but with pressure bleeding off (key on/no start) and when you turn the engine off it is symptomatic of a faulty fuel pressure regulator. When you turn the key on it momentarily energizes the fuel pump to prime the injector feed line. The regulator should retain the pressure so fuel is available during startup. This would also explain the longer then normal cranking before the engine fires.

Good explanation Mike. I was wondering if the regulator might be playing into this (but I have not had time to research deeper). I sent him the GM chart about troubleshooting this. I hope it helps!!

There's a remote possibility it may be the check valve in the fuel pump, but most of the time it's the regulator. You can eliminate the possibility of it being the check valve by performing a second pressure test where the line from the tank feeds the fuel filter. If pressure holds when you turn the key off without immediate bleedoff the check valve is okay. But if it bleeds off within a few minutes then the check valve is leaking.

That deff would explain the long cranks. I thought there was susppose to b a constant pressure after I turn in the on position. I also thought the test I did run meant the regulator was fine. Since it didn't leak when the car was running, and I didn't smell gas from the vaccume hose. But I will see about that regulator again
