Default Best Rockers for N/A?

Alright guys, im faced with a dilemma. I plan to add a supercharger sometime this year to my N/A but want to buy rockers now. I know the ER rockers from zzp are the best for N/A....but if i plan to add a supercharger they wouldnt be (sometimes plans dont always go the way they should). I would want the 1.9 right? My question is, if i bought the 1.9 rockers, would i still be ok in my N/A? I dont want to add KR or have my engine be unstable. Just as long as it doesnt hurt my car. Give me some feedback please, as i plan to buy the rockers this week.

I tried to do some searches on this, but couldnt really found a thread that dealt with this, sorry!

Just go 1.9 and be done with it. The only deal with the ER's is that they were shown to makea little more power on an NA setup versus regular 1.9s- so the only downside is you won't have quite as much power gain in the short term- no big deal though.

got another question on this topic. i was doing some homework on 1.9 rockers from zzpand trying to figure out valve spring #, the difference between pushrods and i came across this article. I've probably read it about 10 times trying to break it down. I was reading about valve float and rocker deflection. valve float is bad, and rocker deflection happens when you have too strong of a springload for the rocker?? is that right? so would you guys recommend changing to comp 105 springs or using stock springs and hope no valve float happens? I also dont want my timing chain dampener to be dead in 15k miles. Im trying to get the best setup i can without making the car less reliable. Also read something about not using stock retainers if i change the springs?

here's the article: http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...les1.php?id=53

anyone help me out to understand what the best setup for my N/A 03 is?

thanks in advance!

Rocker deflection always occurs to some extent- its just a matter of how much occurs- and that is a matter of how the rocker is designed, what it is made out of, etc.

IMO, go with modded stock 1.9 rockers- and leave everything else stock original- and keep with close to stock shift points. They're about the cheapest route, and you don't have to mess with springs only to worry about the chain and that mess as well.

I had ~100k on my gtp when I did 1.9s, and with stock shift points- I have no valve float.

Sure aftermarket rockers will have less deflection- but then the extra lift is going to push you closer into float (I have heard people have float on stock springs with aftermarket 1.9)- and then you're gonna be required to do springs/chain/tensioner- which adds even more money.

Bang for the buck = 1.9 modded stocks.

Thanks Bumpin' i was hoping you would reply to this thread for me. I always know im getting good info. you know a lot about the monte's. Im gonna go ahead and go with the modded 1.9's from zzp. I also wanted to tell you that i did have my pcm tuned by zzp so the shift points arent stock....will this effect anything? i was also thinking about buying thicker pushrods or is that a waste? i have heard of the stock pushrods bending though.....whats your thought? Im gonna have my mechanic put the rockers in so i hope to not need to change anything else again after this due to it being expensive to take apart and put back on. so if you think its worth it i would rather just by anything i need now so i dont have to do it again.

I wouldn't worry at all about the pushrods. A lot of people run stock pushrods with rockers with no prob.

The only thing I'd wonder about is the higher shift points- I'd probably ask zzp what they think about that (I have no idea how high they set them compared to stock). Personally, if they don't think it'll work, I'd just get someone local to flash your shift tables back to stock rather than go for springs/tensioner/chain.
