You know, I've often wondered about this. I would love to see a 5.3L V8 swap into a 2000-2005 Monte Carlo SS. I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work. The engine bay should be large enough to fit it and the tranny is the same (except the V8 version is beefed up a little more). I would think all you'd really need to do to make it work would be to install the computer for the 5.3L. Now whether or not it is legal is another question.

 

the wiring harness would be a killer... if its even possible. plus mounting brackets, exhaust, power steerting and AC hoses would all be wrong. way too much work. the 2000,2005 montes were not designed for the 8 cylinder engines.

 

anything is possible...if you can put a viper engine in a pt cruiser then i'm sure you can do this...just probably be a lot of money..and all the electronic stuff would be a pain in the you know what......its not as easy as it was when you could drop a small block in anything

 

alright... heres some info for whyi would go down to the 3.9 to work with.... the police are doing it. so you ask why the police do it? because hp to weight ratio, its the best. plus, when you put the weight ofa V8 on a suspension designed for a V6... it'll work, but i don't want ot be with you if you take it over about 70. another thing... its FWD. If it was RWD, i'd be okay. fwd puts all the force at the front of the car along with all the weight. i woudln't want ot take a corner at over about 75-80 or the @$$ end will come around on you.
