2006 Monte Carlo transmission stalls
I have a 2006 Monte Carlo with 60K on it. I changed trans fluid and filter after about 35K. I have been having an intermittent problem with the transmission and was wondering if anyone else has this problem.
The problem I'm having is when I park the car in a stall where I need to back up. I will get in the car put it in reverse and it usually happens if someone is waiting to get my parking place. I will back up and take the car out of reverse and put it in drive. The car sits in one place and then BAM!!! it feels like someone rear ends me and the car takes off. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it feels like the trans is going to be sitting on the ground.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

Are you 100% sure that your fluid level is FULL? You mentioned you changed the tranny fluid...It should have taken about 7.5 Quarts to fill it back up if all you did was a pan drop and filter change.
To check your tranny fluid, the car should be at normal operating temp. Then run in through each gear at idle (1st through Reverse, then back into park)...leave the car running, and then pull the dipstick, wipe it, and replace it. Then pull in out and look...

Transmission
Michael,
Thanks for your post. I did check the fluid and finally I got smart and took it to a "transmission shop" and they replaced the transmission. They said it was junk. I don't understand why a certified ASE chevrolet dealership couldn't figure it out. I only took it there 3 times.
Oh well all is well now.
Thanks
