Default 1985 Monte Carlo with huge cam stalls in gear

I took on this project for a friend, it's a 1985 Monte Carlo SS with a built 305, Gnarly roller cam, and a TH200r4 trans. I have it set to idle aroun 1500 RPM right now in park, but as soon as you throw it in gear, it dies. So, tonight I pulled the trans and stuck a GM15AH 1600 to 1800 RPM stall converter in (. It still dies. Alot. Here is his best guess on which cam was installed when they rebuilt his engine 3,000 miles ago.
Performance Camshafts, Lifter Kits and Matching Valvetrain from Edelbrock - Cam Card Locator
The engine has an Edelbrock performer intake with a 1406 (650cfm) sitting on it . My question is this: Higher stall converter, or a high rise intake manifold? It has a cowl induction hood, so I could put a 2" rise on it and still have room for an air filter. My goal is to get it to idle in drive. If I can make it do that, it'll be so much more driveable for packing kids to school and whatnot!

A stahl converter is suppose to resolve that issue....
However...
For example..Lets say you have a 1500 stahl converter...
And the idles set at 1500...(Your defeating the purpose of the stahl converter)

Try lowering the idle down to 900 to 1100 max. for that 1500 stahl converter...Which allows it to idle in gear! (thats the point of a stahl converter)

If you cant get it to idle any lower than that...

Heres your problem...You have the timing to far advanced!
Which renders the idle mixture screws useless!....

also I recommend going to a Holley 750 dbl pumper..If its that "Gnarly"
a different stahl converter or 2" lift wont resolve it!
It needes to breathe...What exhaust is on it? headers? mufflers? Pipes?

Hope this helps...

I'll try tuning it down. The issue with the timing is that there is NO timing tab. I'll put one on it with a matching balancer and report back.
