OK well here is the question? Is there any top swapped Monte Carlos on here running higher timing? Past 14*?
I'm running 22* of WOT timing right now on my blown, L36 2003 Monte Carlo.

That's great to hear! I sent you a PM. Hopefully some other people will post up also. What is your fueling? Do you have a rewire and GTP canister/pump?

I looked back and read this:

I assume you are still running the stock L36 file and 1 bar MAP? I would really like to see your bin file!

Can you send me your bin file. I wouldn't mind taking a look at it.

Never mind it probably won't help since you have a SSM90 and a stock pulley. I am running a totally different animal. Anyone else on here have some input as far as timing on their ACTUAL (heads and all) top swap?

I would like to know if anyone with a close to comparable setup as mine has been able to get a good amount of timing out of their car?

its really hard to compare timing between two diff cars even with the same mods. location, miles, maint, and how closely matched the parts are all play a major factor and could throw off the results. what is safe for one could be damaging to another.

if you want more timing you need: a Wide Band O2 sensor and your own tuner. someone tuning your call will never push it as far as it could go cause its not theirs to break. If you have the $$$ get some dyno time and see what timing gets the most HP. more timing doesn't always mean more HP.

with the wide band you can watch the A/F as you raise the timing. if you raise the timing and your AF gets lean then you are using more fuel... if you raise the timing and you get rich then your not using it all and you need to back the timing back down. You also need to watch the KR very careful as you are basicly pushing your spark table to where it detonates and then backing it down. if you dont have an aeroforce or other gauge to scan KR at all times i would actually drop 2* of timing from where you saw KR just to be safe. maybe 1 if you want to risk KR when temp and weather change.

Yeah I have a wideband and a PT I just need some numbers and/or some bin files.

My AFR is good but for some reason I can't pull more than 14* of timing out of it before it starts knocking up top of the WOT run. I have been playing with some Hybrid L67/L36 files and using other MAPs (1 and 2 bar) and using 2004+ supercharged bin files.

This issue has been reported to me by other 2000-2002 Monte Carlo owners. I am just wondering if anyone has had any success with higher timing on a similar setup?

One of the issues at had is when on WOT the MAF in our cars can fail causing the car to go into VE mode. Someone has come up with a solution for this but it was still a problem. Another problem is the cat check from the rear o2 that wasn't an issue in 00 bins but is in the 01-02 bins. There has also been a work around for that introduced. Just wondering if anyone has had better luck than me?

There's a top swapped impala, he's local. He's in Bowie I think.
His name is GOTITFORCHEAP, he is more active over at the impala forum.
naioa.com

Good luck.
