Question 01 SS Mis-Firing under load

Hi all,

I posted earlier about my overdrive going out over a year ago. In 2 weeks i plan on replacing the tranny and just today the car has started to misfire (chugging)(like it has a hard time going) under acceleration. Once the car warms up it is not as severe, but still exists. If I place the tranny in neutral and hit the accelerator there is no misfiring. Because of the governor I can only test under neutral up to 4000 RPM.

Is there damage to one or more cylinders because I have driven without that gear for over a year?

Thanks for any guidance

I wouldn't think you damaged the car by driving without overdrive, unless you were driving very hard on the car.

and stop revving the car in neutral / park, you can damage it that way!

When was the last tune-up, has your fuel filter been changed? Maybe you are experiencing a clogged cat? If it was a misfire it should be throwing a code.

Ingnition coil, clogged cat, fuel filter, and or simple tune up (spark plugs and wires)....sounds like it could be something from the above list.

I doubt you ruined the car by driving a year without OD, because even without OD these cars are geared tall, so you were no really over reving the car...but I would fix that ASAP. Its certainly not good for your car to do an extra 1,000 RPM all the time, and is in no way good for your gas milage.
