Question HELP PLEASE~>'03 SS Vibration when accelerating or under load

I have an 03 SS that has a vibration when accelerating or under a load such as going uphill, It seems worse when there is down force to the front end. I have been thinking it's possibly a half shaft issue (CV joint). Wheels feel tight. There is a bit of play in the half shafts when I try to rotate the wheel back and forth. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bradster & Welcome to the Monte Carlo Family..

Sorry to read about your problem Have you checked your motor mounts 4 wear or if they are tight...Worth the check..+check out the balance on tires + out of balance drive shaft, bad wheel bearings, weak struts or shocks, and even bad torque converters can cause a vibrations.

Also check back to see if any of our expert tech member's can assist with your problem...Good Luck and we hope that you can resolve your problem....

145000 miles. I have done extensive tuneup including cat and O2 sensors, Had a tuliped valve on No 3 cyl. due to plugged up cat. had valves reworked. Mounts are all good, wheel bearings are tight, New tires, Tranny serviced. Everything Stock except K&N. Gets 31MPG on the hwy. Don't want to get rid of it. It's been a really good vehicle for us.

The halfshaft ends are different from left to right - the one with the socket end slides over a transfer shaft inside the transaxle, while the other one has a stub that pilots into the final drive. Both are supported by bushings and if the bushings wear out the halfshafts can wobble quite a bit and cause vibration. Unfortunately, if you find a lot of slop up and down on either side that means the bushings are wiped out, and transaxle must be removed to repair them. The half-shafts and the final drive are the only things heavy enough to vibrate that badly at highway speeds,

Found the above on a search for your information...

Please check back later, & hopefully one of our talented member's can assist/advise/help ~> Good Luck
