Greetings. I have a 2001 MC SS 3800 that has around 130k miles on it. For the last few months it's had this problem severly reduced power to the wheels.

The engine seems to be putting out properly. However the transmission I believe is the colprute. I get slow performance from 0 - 45MPH, then from 45 - 70MPH, it's almost like I need to get out and push. If I push the gas harder, the car downshifts to 3rd, and it will rev up to around 4000RPM, however it will not go any faster. The best way to get to the max speed (80MPH downhill) is by slowly accelerating in 4th gear.

If anyone can think of ways to get around having to replace/rebuild the trans please let me know! Thanks!

 

check the Cat converter, belive me when i say it can cause a lot of headaches , So check it out .
it will clog up slowliy and you wont notice it till it is to late.

Also I took the car to Carmax to try to sell it. They noted that the trans needed work, and offered to give me $2500 for it. [:'(]

As for the cat, is there a way I can do a pressure test at home?
