Default the right pressure for stock tires

My mechanic and I both have different opinions on the right tire pressure for when traveling on highways. He recommended 35 psi on my tires. I told him i had heard it should be 40psi. What is the verdict from montecarlo forums. I drive a 2002 chevy monte carlo ls with stock rims.

40 seems high.I run 30, and dont forget your pressure comes up when the tire heats up.

Maybe 40 if the car was fully loaded down.

I just go by what it sayson the tires, if it says 35psi do 35psi if it says 40 psi then do 40 psi.

i run 30psi, which is what the factory specifies. or try to find what the tire manufacturer recommends. i think 40 is way too high. on a lower profile tire, i would pry run 35. if you over/underinflate, it will lead to premature tire wear, and we all know tires aren't cheap!

not trying to be mean but do not go by what it says on the tire...go by what the sticker says on the b pillar on ur car (i cant remember which b pillar its on) if any of you remember the firestone-ford incident that is what happens when you dont follow the b pillar...

I wear the centers out at 30 psi. More than once. I've dropped to 28.5 psi.

Yeah, read the tire again. It says MAX PSI!!! When you start driving it the tires will warm up and you will be above max.

Inside the drivers side door on the B-Pillar is a sticker that tells you what to run. Typically between 30-32 PSI.

Running lower PSI such as 25 or so will give you better traction in winter and on the track... I run about 20ish on the track.

Running higher like 35-38 will give you better gas mileage, but at the expense of braking distance. Your tires are inflated so much that they loose some ground contact and you are likely to slide more.

another note, air expands as the temperature rises and the general rule of thumb is 1 lb for every 10 degrees so if room temp is around 70 and the tires are set at 35 psi...then at 50 degrees the tires would only b set to 33 psi so for all of u pple fillin ur tires with cold air keep that in mind

35 is the standard. reasoning: 1 winter cold weather will lower your psi. it generally drops to 32psi, summer raises it generally not above 40. this will help prevent going over psi and risking a blow out, and going under and riskinga blow out. ))
