Default Error code: P0440 Evaporative Emission System

I turned my car on after work to see my message center say "Service Vehicle Soon." After taking it to Autozone I get the P0440 code and I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this code and knows what the problem is. THe paper I got has the following reasons.

Loose fuel cap
EVAP Canister or hose cracked-not connected
Purge or vent solenoid defective
Vacuum leak at engine.

I checked my fuel cap and it was tight. Just wondering what the MAIN cause could be. Thanks for any help. I have a '03 Monte SS

Ya checked the fuel cap. The next easy thing to do is check for vacuum leaks. These cars luckily don't have a lot of vacuum lines. One way to check for leaks is to get a can of starting fluid, while the car is running, mist it around the engine (around vacuum points). If you have a leak, the engine will suck in the starting fluid and you will find a spot where the idle changes as a result.

A friend of mine got an EVAP code on his Grand Prix. Without leak checking, just a visual inspection, found he had a couple of badly dry rotted vacuum couplings. Replaced and no code since.
