Came from the factory that way.

Back to the OP. I think it would look good, be a subtle touch that most people wouldn't notice at first but they will know SOMETHING is different. As a matter of fact I'm playing around with what to do to mine. The red on three of them had faded out to pink or nothing. I used a fine line sharpie to re-outline the bowtie in black, now I'm leaning to filling it in as well (this time in paint, sharpie was just to get the "feel"). Not sure if Matt @ reflectiveconcepts has anything to help me, since the outline is raised, but shoot wouldn't hurt to e-mail him... Maybe something in a solid reflective black????

You can still take the whole center cap off. You should try it, the worst that could happen is you don't like it and just blast the paint back off :P

I am having a vinyl decal made to overlay over the top of mine that way I could do the SS on the center caps

Default Painting the wheel emblems

On my Gen 5, I used red nail polish (NYC brand, "Big Apple Red") to make the chrome-plated LS emblems look like the Z-34's. Masking of the surrounding areas took up the most time, and I applied 4 coats. Since it was only an "experiment", I did not prep the surfaces at all before applying the nail polish. However, I must say I'm pleasantly surprised how well they've held up -I painted them just after Thanksgiving, and even after a nasty month of Minnesota weather (2 major snow storms), I still don't see any chipping/peeling. I may do a more "permanent" paint job in the future, but for now, the red looks nicer than the original, and although it's a small thing, it really makes they wheels stand out, and was definitely worth the time and risk.

The true test will be that first pressure-wash after the Spring thaw!

I painted the bow tie red on my 2004 ss wheels with model paint and a small brush. Nothing fancy, but i was happy with the results. could wash right over them and still looked good. Just had to touch them up every spring.
