do you really have to paint behind it? or has anyone done it without painting behind it?

you don't HAVE to, but you will see the red and the old front through it if you don't do the black matte behind it. Being as you are a red car it could look bad. But just do a temporary stick on if you get it and decided for yourself.

I ordered the Tony Stewart grille today from GM Parts Direct. I'm going to be making some changes to my girl and I'll share a pic when I get them done.

Does anyone know the specific type of 3M tape to get for the mounting? I sure don't want to get the wrong stuff.

I used 3m 03609na tape , bought a roll at Auto Zone. Bought the big roll, was like $12.00 or so.

The TS grille already has the tape on it. Mine has been on for 2 years now and it looks like it was just put on.Being as your car is black it will match perfect. Just put it on and you are good to go. Supercharged05SS here is a pic of the mesh painted silver. Definitely paint the area behind it flat black as it just doent look right with it being red behind the grille. With it being flat back it creates the illusion there is a hole behind the grille.

did you wet sand it to have the matte black stick?
