Question Rust Question

The 75 MC's last paint job was a not so good white one. It also has a couple parts that are different colors. A couple spots where the paint has totally come off rust is starting to develop. I am hoping to have the car painted in the near future and I am not sure how the painters would handle the rust. My question is would it be best to try to kill the rust myself ( and how?) or leave it until it gets painted?

If its going to get painted soon I would just let the pros fix it. Especially if you don't know how to do it. It could end up costing you more in the end for them to fix your mistakes.

well how bad is it?is it all the way through the metal?how close in the future are you wanting to get it painted?letting rust sit out in the weather will just make it worse.what kind of knowledge do you have in sanding and body work?"such and such?how ambitious are you?there are some ways to get rid of it.theres some spray cans that will eat the rust area and "kill" it not to spread anymore.depending on how bad it is.but this is me i like to "DIY" to be able to say i did that didnt have to pay for it...but if it just surface rust.grab some sand paper sand the area and get some primer, doesnt matter what color and give it a good coat.

rust is cancer for cars unless removed or treated with a encasolator or converter it will continue to grow and what you see may not be all of it it likes to hide under paint for some time

Well I definatly would not be able to cut out sections and weld in metal... Assuming your serious. I don't even know how to weld exhaust. I want to learn though. Also I am in CA. 1970 Monte I am pretty ambitious, the other day some one had mentioned I think a 300 grade 3M pad or something. I just have to do it now thank you
