7th Gen ('06-'07): Rear Wheel Drive build thread, It is happening..
Greg. I guess I can never thank you enough for all that you have done for me. You honor me with your attention to detail and your never ending accolades. Everything you do is greatly appreciated.
To answer a few questions my goal is 1400 SAE HP but no telling what it might be - knowing Matt it will probably be somewhere near 1400 WHP and that very well could translate to something close to the 1800 HP @ the crank. Matt and I have spoken about the wiring and from my conversation with Matt it very well could be a combination of his skills mated with an aftermarket setup like or similar to a Painless plug and play. And I do have a name for the car. —SSV II —. And I will plate it that way also, just like my current Monte is plated — SSV —
As far as insurance goes there are several collector agencies that will insure any type of vehicle for an agreed value. You just have to pay the price. I had SSV professionally appraised— a full detailed write up with pictures submitted it to Grundy and pay about $4000 a year for unlimited mileage with one single driver.
For the exception of a small bump on the hood 4” in height or less (State law) as I have been informed no wheelie bars or parachute the car will look perfectly stock on the outside just looking at it. Wide rear tires are not governed by any restrictions. For all practical purposes and appearances the car will be badged and have all the SS trim including an SS steering wheel which is a dead give away it’s not an SS if you don’t change it and I have. I will have all the fascia front, rear and sides. Front bumper, if Matt can find one will be the SS IMPALA bumper same as what I have now, if not I still have my original SS bumper from SSV. I have already purchased the rear SS bumper as I mentioned in this car’s transformation in earlier posts if I remember correctly. And as far as the State goes we do not have an inspection requirement for car
for roadworthiness unless it is a complete DIY build (a lot of DIY cars don’t have titles making State inspection mandatory)that I know of and in my case I have the VIN and title and will register and plate it that way as an original GM manufactured car. And the only way you are not going to know this car is not an SS is by the VIN. I have a completely stock body with absolutely no alterations except for the hood which is well within allowable limits set forth by State law as far as I know. And if my hood is 4-1/2 and not 4” - I can’t imagine getting pulled over
by a police officer with a tape measure. My car will have all the necessary catalytical converters and mufflers albeit straight through with 2 added cut outs. All my O2 sensors - nothing on this car will be amiss to not having the correct (although) minimal environmental equipment that any stock GM car originally came equipped with from the factory.
This entire response was done on my phone with two fat fingers. A chore to say the least but it was worth it because I look so forward to all the interest in my build. Thank you. Sam

I will say, I'm blown away by the cost. I had no idea those policies were that expensive!
I'm curious about that as well along with how he plans to handle insurance on it.
I know some folks with DIY RWD conversions that just register / insure it under the original VIN and lie to say the car is stock. But I'd imagine for the huge amount of money into this you'd want to do it all the right way to make sure a) it doesn't get impounded b) you don't lose all of your money in a wreck.

To get an appraisal you have to submit your build sheet that is always provided by the builder with dated pictures of the car. This becomes record for the insurance company and also helps with the agreed value to insure the car too.

I have M & H 345/35 x 18’s drag radials mounted on Forgeline’s for street use. They do have some tread on them and are estimated to get 6000 miles excluding burnouts. They are DOT approved.
There are pictures of them in previous posts.
On the front I have Continental 235/50 x 18’s also on Forgeline’s. These tires are the stock size all SS’s came with from the factory.

To the best of my knowledge P235/50 x 18’s were the stock size tires on all SS Montes for 2006 & 2007 front and back. I do not know the stock tire sizes for earlier years for the SS.
Do these look like the Impala front bumper assembly and components you need? There are like 3 different upper grille inserts, so thought I would show them.

On 2005 Supercharged Monte Carlos they carried P235/55R/17 and had the FE4 suspension package (police). Had to use special struts for clearance. The other ones used P225/60R/16.
Greg. Thanks for the Impala parts info it is appreciated thank you. When I was building SSV with some help of GM’s performance group. They gave me a complete parts breakdown of every part and part number of the 2006 and 2007 Monte Carlo. When I say complete the catalogue is so detailed right down to the smallest screw. And lucky for me because the Monte and Impala are both W bodies and share a lot of parts the Impala for 2006 & 2007 is also included. That made it easy for me to get the right Impala grille for SSV. And if I remember correctly I gave all the pertinent diagrams to Matt so he can get the correct grille I want. Getting parts for 15 year old cars is not always easy due to availability of the older parts. Thanks take care. Sam.
