The Winter Beater is Wrecked

Wow picture 5 really says it all... Heck a free rental is always cool, just don't do like Johnny Knoxville did when they rented the car on Jackass. Not that you would, but your mind may have been rattled from the wreck and you could claim temporary insanity.

Well, I got a rental car (Nissan Murano). It's OK, but I like cars. But hey, WHEELS!!
Insurance wanted the Grand Am at a body shop, so that's where she is tonight. It drove OK there, but I do notice a little something not right, but I doubt I'll have to worry about it.
Mean time, I look for the next ride!
Attached are some quick pics right before I drove it up to the shop.

Update: Friday, later afternoon, the body shop called. Estimated damages are $4K + $2K for adjustments, total of about $6K. She's going to become a soup can (as expected). Just sad, was a great running car, on to the next one.
Now, I await the insurance company to get in touch with me and for me to get my stuff out of the car and find another beater.
I'm really interested in another Grand Am GT (though Chibi has been tempting me with other ideas, I may consider an '00+ Imp, but I like the little "go cart" feel of the Grand Am)....

Its kinda funny that you consider a Grand Am a go kart. Personally, I agree. I like my big cars and consider my Monte small enough. And I am not a big guy. But most people I know consider a Grand Am big compared to there Focus' and Civics

What is more than one Focus? Is it Focuses? Foci?

Jason that sucks... Thank goodness your OK...... Did the airbags fire?... Airbags even on newer vehicles, if they fire it's a right off... Get all your maintenance and up-grade reciepts together because they are going to low ball you on pay-out, Don't let them...

Actually, it's the '99-'05 Grand Ams that feel like go-karts to me. I had a 93 and a '94 (my step-brother had an '88 or '89, can't remember). When sitting in the driver seat of the older Grand Am's I mentioned, the seats were the SAME seats GM used in the F-bodies, and you felt little lower to the ground in those generations, more "sporty" feel in the driver **** pit (I'll loosely compare the feel of the seat and cockpit space to the 3rd and 4th gen f-bodies). But the 99+, I feel comfortable, but I feel the car sits a little taller, interior space does not feel as wide. Hence why I've referred to it as a "go kart". Regardless, I like the cars.
No air bag deployment. But I knew based on the damage, it was a total. I won't go into it (and hopefully won't need to vent it) but before I drove it to a body shop, I asked some very targeted questions, got comforting answers and the "let's get it to the shop to get it fixed" attitude. Then just some issues in some conversations, but I think it's sorted out as of this morning.
